2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Melcah Jen Caballero and Joanie Delgaco will compete in the Asian and Oceania Continental Qualification Regatta on May 5-7 in Tokyo, Japan.
The top three rowers will win tickets to the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo set for July 23 to August 8.
The 25-year-old Caballero earned a seat in the medal race of the women’s 500-meter lightweight single sculls in the virtual competition of the World Rowing Indoor Championships after leading the continental qualifier.
The 22-year-old Delgaco also advanced to the open qualification.
Caballero, who won the gold medal in the lightweight single sculls of the 2019 SEA Games, chose to team up with Delgaco in the double sculls.
Caballero and Delgaco aim to join pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena, gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo and boxers Eumir Felix Marcial and Irish Magno at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Other Olympic berth seekers are 2016 Rio de Janeiro silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz (weightlifting), 2018 Asian Games gold medal winner Margielyn Didal, 2019 world champion Nesthy Petecio (boxing), SEA Games queens Kiyomi Watanabe (judo) and Junna Tsukii and Jamie Lim (karatedo).
