It is worth noting that on February 11, 2021, Taylor Swift announced on Good Morning America that a re-recorded version of “Love Story”, titled “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)”, would be released today, February 12, alongside a lyric video, as the lead single from Fearless (Taylor’s Version), which is scheduled for release on April 9, 2021.
“This process has been more fulfilling and emotional than I could’ve imagined and has made me even more determined to re-record all of my music,” Swift wrote in a note to fans.
“I hope you’ll like this first outing as much as I liked travelling back in time to recreate it,” added Swift.
The “new” album will include “6 never-before-released songs from the vault,” bringing the total tracklisting to 26.
In December of 2020, a snippet of the remastered track and re-recorded “Love Story” was used in a Match.com commercial directed by actor Ryan Reynolds.
“When I think back on the Fearless album and all that you turned it into, a completely involuntary smile creeps across my face. This was the musical era in which so many inside jokes were created between us, so many hugs exchanged and hands touched, so many unbreakable bonds formed. So before I say anything else, let me just say that it was a real honor to get to be a teenager alongside you,” Swift said.
When asked about the rerecording of her catalog, Swift told Billboard in 2019: “It’s going to be fun because it’ll feel like regaining a freedom and taking back what’s mine. When I created [these songs], I didn’t know what they would grow up to be. Going back in and knowing that it meant something to people is actually a really beautiful way to celebrate what the fans have done for my music.”
