The Philippine national cycling team will surpass the gold medal in the last 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
This is what Philippine Navy Standard Insurance Group chairman and cycling patron Ernesto “Judes” Echauz said as the national riders compete in the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 21 to December 2.
A total of three gold, four silver and four bronze medals were claimed by the national cycling team in the 2019 edition of the country’s biennial event.
Lea Denise Belgira (mountain bike, women’s downhill), Jermyn Prado (road cycling, women’s time trial) and John Derick Farr (mountain bike, men’s downhill) won three gold medals.
“We’ve seen the caliber of the other women’s teams and I think we have the best in Southeast Asia and comparable to the best in Asia itself,” said Echauz.
Echauz is also confident of the national men’s team’s chance to take home gold from the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games.
“We’ve learned the new techniques. We think we would be able to improve the gold for the team time trial and including the individual,” said Echauz.
