Veteran entertainment writer Ricky Lo made a statement after the confirmation that James Reid and Nadine Lustre are no longer a boyfriend-girlfriend couple.
Lo reported the said break-up two weeks before the joint statement was read in the late-night show of “Tonight with Boy Abunda” in his column in Philippine Star.
However, Nadine along with the Jadine army lambasted the entertainment columnist as he also touched the topic of “mental illness” in the said article which has the title “JaDine breakup: A case of too much, too soon?”.
“According to a STAR source, James is handling the breakup with care to cushion the impact on Nadine who has admitted grappling with mental illness (he has a brother who committed suicide),” mentioned on the original published article.
Nadine made her response through a post on her Instagram Stories:
“First off, that was low @therealrickylo @philippinestar. Second, none of what you said was true & It is NEVER okay to use someone’s mental situation/tragic past just to prove a point. Mental Illness is a very sensitive matter,” Nadine wrote on Instagram.
Yet, moments later after Tito Boy read the joint statement of Nadine and James where they also said that the reason for their break-up is to focus on their personal growth, Lo wrote his statement.
He appreciates that the ex-couple confirmed that they have split-up via a joint statement.
“I should thank James Reid and Nadine Lustre for confirming in a joint statement that they have broken up, exactly two weeks after I broke the story in my STAR column — that is, after Nadine denied it with impunity,” he said.
Lo also mentioned that he kept his cool during those times when Nadine and her fans bashed him on social media.
“I kept my cool and just said, “Just wait and see” even when Nadine (while James remained silent) lambasted me for being a liar (purveyor of fake news) and thus emboldening her fans to relentlessly doing the same on social media,” said Lo.
He also clarified that articles he wrote have a basis and got shared by reliable sources.
“In my many decades as a journalist, I always stand for the truth and write “delicate” stories (like the James-Nadine breakup) only when given to me by reliable sources and after double-checking. In any case, whether showbiz or elsewhere, honesty is the best policy.”
Finally, Lo used almost the same line which Nadine used against him earlier.
“O, Nadine, ano na? 2020 na!!!” he wrote.
