Few days prior to Valentine’s Day, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid shared the lessons she has learned when it comes to love in her “Magandang Buhay” guesting on Monday.
According to Regine, before getting into a relationship with someone, you should be good friends first.
Last December, Regine and her husband Filipino singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.
“Ogie and I have known each other for a long time. When I was 18 and he was probably 21 mga ganyan we dated. Pinatayan ko siya ng ipis sa harap niya. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Na-turn off ka ba?’ Sabi niya ‘Hindi.’ Pero naisip ko ang bata pa niya. He stopped and I didn’t see him for a long time but we’ve always been friends,” Regine stressed.
Regine also reiterated that when it comes to love, couples should grow together.
“We definitely grow together because it’s important. When you get married you become one, that means you grow old together. Wala ng you and me, but we do have our me time,” said Regine.
Another lesson that Regine learned when it comes to loving someone was that love is a commitment and a choice.
“When you are in a relationship when you are married, it’s a daily thing. It’s every day that you choose, you remind yourself that I’m choosing this person to love because we’re not perfect. Kami ng asawa ko never kaming nag-away but we discuss, we talk about it. Si Nate never pa niya kaming nakita na nagsigawan,” said Regine.
“The reason I say it’s a daily thing na you constantly remind yourself na I’m choosing to love him is because you are accepting that he’s not perfect so are you, ‘di ka rin perfect. So he’s accepting to love me. Kapag nasa relationship ka for me everyday dapat lagi mong iniisip na I choose love over whatever problem,” she added.
Lastly, Regine also gave emphasis on the importance of making God the center of a couple’s relationship.
“Bilang haligi ng tahanan, kailangan lalaki ang nagi-initiate noon and I’m so happy that he really takes it seriously. He would always remind me nagdasal ka ba. It’s always with prayers and it’s wonderful. Kung hindi pa niyo nata-try, try niyo,” said Regine.
“Hindi ba ang prayer is form of meditation after nun nakakagaan ng loob at mag-iiba rin ang tingin mo sa asawa mo kasi nakikita mo how godly he is, alam mo na wala siyang gagawin that will hurt you,” she added.
Regine is all set to take her Filipino fans worldwide to a rare date night experience in the upcoming “Freedom: Regine Velasquez-Alcasid Digital Concert,” which is set to deliver a melodic spectacle featuring her rendition of a new repertoire on February 14 (Sunday).
The Valentine’s Day concert will be streaming simultaneously on digital platforms ktx.ph, iWanttFC, and TFC IPTV.
