Aside from the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam in November, the Philippines will also compete in the Asian Senior Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Championships in August.
That is why national team commission chief Tonyboy Liao of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, Inc. (PNVFI) is now choosing the future head coach of the women’s and men’s team, respectively.
Two of the commissioned by the PNVFI to mentor the national women’s and men’s squads are multi-titled coach Ramil de Jesus and Dante Alinsunurin, respectively.
It is possible that De Jesus, who led the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers to 11 championships in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) featuring “three-peat,” to take over Shaq Delos Santos’ position.
De Jesus previously assisted the national women’s squad in winning the bronze medal of the Manila SEA Games in 2005.
Alinsunurin, on the other hand, guided the national men’s team to the historic silver medal finish at the SEA Games hosted by the country in December of 2019.
Delos Santos’ women’s national squad is satisfied with the fourth-place finish in the said edition of the biennial event.
Liao was commissioned by PNVFI president Tats Suzara to oversee the formation of the men’s and women’s national teams including the under-23, under-19 and under-17 squads.
