The TNT KaTropa dethroned the defending champions, the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok as they escaped with the victory, 98-97.
Jayson Castro proves once again he is the franchise player of the KaTropa as he helped rally his team in the final quarter and stole the victory.
The “Blur” tallied 30 points and seven assists to lead his team in their offense and was also later named as the Best Player of the Game.
On paper, Bobby Ray Parks looks struggling to manufacture his points but when time matters the most, Parks delivered. With only six seconds remaining in the final period, the second overall pick of the 2018 draft calmly swished his two clutch free throws. Enough for Talk ‘N Text to turn the tides in their favor, 98-97.
Magnolia entered the final frame carrying a 14-point advantage and with less than five minutes remaining in the contest, it seems that squad of coach Chito Victolero is on their way for a do-or-die battle on Wednesday.
However, TNT fought back behind the splendid performance of Castro. They limit Magnolia to score only three points in the remaining four minutes in regulation and complete the comeback.
With the victory, TNT will face Meralco in the semi-finals and that is scheduled after the 2019 SEA Games.
