The NorthPort Batang Pier shocked the NLEX Road Warriors and extended their 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup campaign as they beat the team that owns a twice-to-beat advantage.
Batang Pier’s electrifying import Michael Qualls energized his squad with his usual high-flying that most of the time ended up with an explosive dunk.
Qualls made 39 points and 16 rebounds to lead NorthPort in the victory. He was later named as the Best Player of the Game.
Christian Standhardiner added 24 points and 13 rebounds while the last member of coach Pido Jarencio’s “Three-Headed Monster”, Sean Anthony made 12 points and four boards.
In their quarterfinals opener versus the Road Warriors, NorthPort showed an oozing amount of energy since the opening of the quarter. At the end of the first quarter, NorthPort leads by 10, then in the second quarter and third quarter, it was still Batang Pier leading by as much as 26 points.
In the final period, NLEX had their mini-run and cut the deficit to 14 points but that was the closest they can get.
Apart from a blowout defeat, coach Yeng Guiao squad has players involved in a scuffle late in the fourth period. One of those players in JP Erram who is one of the integral components of Road Warriors offense.
The Commissioner office will review what had transpired and may slap those players who participated in the commotion with penalties.
JR Quinahan led NLEX with 20 points while their import Manny Harris got shutdown and only made 12 points and seven boards.
