The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has done it again and crushed the hopes of the San Miguel Beermen to make a grand slam this season after they won Game 1 of their quarterfinals round, 100-97.
Justin Brownlee proves once again why he is the barometer of choosing an import in the past few years of the governors’ cup.
The Gin Kings well-loved foreign player dropped 41 points and 11 rebounds yet probably the most important play he made was when he blocked the three-point attempt of Terrence Romeo that could possible forced the game to overtime.
Stanley Pringle added 24 points while LA Tenorio added 12 points. The duo also had their own version of crucial play late in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
After Brownlee made his three-pointer at the 2:38 mark where he gave Ginebra an upper hand, 96-95, Tenorio and Pringle also had their moments of the game.
Tenorio swiped the ball from Terrence Romeo and while the ball is about to go out of bounce, he tapped it back inside the court which landed in the hands of Stanley Pringle.
“Stan-the-Man” unleashed his usual bursts of speed to complete a layup.
That play was the dagger of the game to deflate the confidence of SMB.
June Mar Fajardo tried to carry the Beermen on his shoulder after he tallied 24 points and 18 boards. However, despite that eye-popping stat line, San Miguel unable to push their quarterfinals round to sudden death.
With the victory, Ginebra will wait for the winner between the NLEX Road Warriors and NorthPort Batang Pier which is scheduled tomorrow.
