The Gin Kings are eyeing for a 2-0 series advantage while the Bolts obviously doesn’t want that and instead to even the series at 1-1 and reduce their championship best-of-seven to best-of-five when the 2019 PBA Governors Cup continues in Lucena this evening.
For coach Ginebra coach Tim Cone, playing in an out-of-town match is much like a double-bladed sword or in short has its advantage as well as a disadvantage.
“It’s always tough, the travel, the conditions, are always difficult. The bus ride is tough, sleeping out of your own bed, not getting your routines, food you normally have. It’s tough but there are some positives as well,” said Cone.
“There’s a real sense of togetherness because you’re going out of town and you’re together in a hotel and because everybody’s nearby, it’s easy to call everyone together and do video work, extra preparation,” Ginebra’s bench chieftain added.
Yet, for Meralco’s camp, apart from those upside and downside mentioned by their counterpart coach, Bolts’ head coach Norman Black will also a deal a mammoth crowd which is expected to be cheering for the Gin Kings.
“There’s always an advantage for Ginebra whenever they go anywhere in the country; normally fans will follow them. Our advantage of playing at Araneta, is the fact we can probably get 4,000 or 5,000 fans in the gym; they will have the other 12,000, 15,000,” said Black.
“When we go to the province, that’s a little bit more difficult for us; it’s hard to bring our fans from Metro Manila to the provinces, so we’ll see. Anyway, we have to win this game, it’s a must-win for us; it really won’t matter where we play,” he added.
