NorthPort Batang Pier guard Sol Mercado will be joining a new team in the upcoming 45th PBA Season that will start in March 2020.
Mercado will swap places with LA Revilla and slam dunk king Rey Guevarra.
The “Soul Train” arrived in NorthPort during the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup along with Jervy Cruz and Kevin Ferrer as part of the Stanley Pringle trade where “Stan-the-Man” moved to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
Mercado fill-in the void left by their prized rookie Robert Bolick who suffered an injury at the tailend of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round.
The 35-year-old Fil-Am was instrumental when Batang Pier toppled the top-seeded NLEX Road Warriors in the quarterfinals round.
Revilla, on the other hand, is fresh from his newly signed six-month contract with the Fuel Masters and this agreement will be carried forward to his new team. The Bacolod native is now healthy after successful foot surgery.
For Guevarra, though his playing minutes isn’t that big in official PBA games stat sheet yet when All-Star games come, expect that all of the spotlights will be centered at him particularly in the Slam Dunk contest.
Both NorthPort and Phoenix were reported that they already agreed to the trade terms and its papers are now with the PBA Commissioner’s office for approval.
