Eloy Poligrates and Nikko Panganiban are set to join the Rizal Xentrol Mall in the upcoming season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
That news was confirmed by Rizal’s team manager Anj Anzores.
“No one wants to end last on the rank of course, so after meeting with the owners, we all agreed that we have to build a more competitive squad,” said Anzores.
“Signing Eloy is really a big step, especially as all teams are rebuilding,” he added. “Getting him early is an advantage. At least, we already secured a guy that we know will be of great help.”
Last year in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup, the former PBA player notched 67 points against iWalk Chargers. In the league’s Aspirants Cup, Poligrates averaged 21.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steal where he also led the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers to finish at second place.
The high-scoring guard also had stops at Cebu City Sharks and Valenzuela City Carga Backload Solutions.
Likewise, Rizal inked Nikko Panganiban who is the reigning NAASCU Rookie of the Year. He played with the Our Lady of Fatima University where he registered 18.1 points, and 9.1 rebounds a game.
The Xentro Mall backed squad also retained the services of one of their big-men Mark Benitez who accepted a two-year extension.
To bolster their upcoming campaign, Rizal still not done with signing players.
“We are talking to several collegiate and NBL players as well that we can’t name pa because they are still awaiting approval from their mother teams,” Anzores said.
