The former number one pick of the PBA Draft, CJ Perez is now an official member of the San Miguel Beermen after the deal got sealed by the PBA Commissioner’s office today.
San Miguel will send Russel Escoto, Gelo Alolino and former Gilas Pilipinas member Matt Ganuelas Rosser to Terrafirma Dyip. Part of that package are Beermen’s first round pick rights in the upcoming draft and 2022 draft.
The former Lyceum Pirates standout entered the Philippine Basketball Association by storm. Not only that he won the 2019 PBA Rookie of the Year award but he’s also the league’s scoring leader on that same season. Perez is also part of the 2019 PBA Mythical First Team and was also busy playing as part of the Gilas Pilipinas where he was member of the national basketball team which competed in China during the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
Though the deal raised eye brows of many basketball fans in the country as they sees it as unfair yet the reality is that Perez will be wearing the SMB jersey for the 46th PBA season. He will team-up with the already formidable familiar San Miguel led by June Mar Fajardo.
For SMB fans, though they failed to reach the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup Finals, this 2021 version of the All-Filipino conference might be the start of their grand slam season.
