The Steel Jumbo Plastic-backed squad is looking to end their Group B Finals showdown and book their national championship entry while the Tigers will try to stretch the series to Game 3 when the 2019-20 MPBL Lakan Cup returns in Basilan this evening.
The night was long for both squads during their series opener last Monday. Yet, it didn’t fail to entertain their fans in Tagum City as the match ended in a dramatic fashion.
“That’s how the division finals will be. Toe-to-toe, breaks of the game, talagang kailangan lang composed kasi ‘yun ‘yung magde-decide,” said Basilan head coach Jerson Cabiltes.
After their added minutes after the clock malfunctioned, the Tigers tried to reclaim the lead as Billy Ray Robles attempted for a two-point basket. However, Jay Collado was there to stop him by blocking the “Ilonggo Superman’s” shot.
Davao had one more try to either tie the score or even make a point victory by converting three as Allyn Bulanadi keep the door open to their opponent as he split his trip from the charity line.
Tiger’s Kenneth Mocon ran against the time as he heaved the match’s final shot and a potential game-tying attempt, yet, his attempt was not able to find the bottom of the net and lose the game.
Bulanadi spearheaded the Basilan’s scoring attack as he delivered 15 points and nine boards while teammates Jerald Bautista and Bobby Balucanag each had 12 points.
Davao Occidental, on the other hand, got its scoring lift from Bobby Robles who generated 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jerwin Gaco had 12 points and six boards while wounder-warrior Mark Yee got 12 markers.
