Coach Tim Cone has made his decision and included Greg Slaughter to the lineup of Gilas Pilipinas for their 2019 SEA Games campaign.
RR Pogoy of Talk ‘N Text KaTropa was one of the original choices but his service went unavailable after he got injured during their quarterfinals match in the PBA.
With Pogoy, it was expected that Gilas will have a deeper roster, particularly on the perimeter. The former PBA Rookie of the Year is one of the mainstays for team Philippines ever since he joined the PBA back in 2016.
With regards to Slaughter, his skill set is totally different from Pogoy but his inside presence will give the opposing teams problem in the paint.
If coach Tim Cone decides to go big, it’s really a literal big. With June Mar Fajardo, Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar manning the post, their opponent needed to make sure that they have an ample amount of outside shooting ammunition.
Gilas Pilipinas will start playing tomorrow (December 4) versus team Singapore. Then followed by team Vietnam on December 6 and their final preliminary opponent is team Myanmar on December 7.
